York is awash with great hotels and as a small city, everything is very close by. (It is rubbish for parking though, so using your own vehicle to drive between the Register Office and the reception is not recommended.)
Hotels
The Whippet Inn is directly opposite a Radisson, and there are a number of Premier Inns across the city. The Blossom Street Premier Inn is a 10 minute walk away, while the Layerthorpe Premier Inn (a newer addition) is 15 minutes walk away, with slightly better parking.
The Minster Hotel and Minster Walk Guest House are both located within 5 minutes of the Register Office and 15 minutes of the reception venue. If you’re feeling fancy, No. 1 Guest House and Hotel Clementine are also very nearby.
Self-catered Accommodation
If you are looking for aparthotels or similar, York has a number of serviced apartments available. In particular, we have heard good things about Clearly Apartments.
B and Bs
Many independent B and Bs are also a feature of York, with Grosvenor Terrace, St Marys, Marygate and Bootham as key locations, all within easy walking distance of the Register Office.
Stay
Getting there
Train
York is well served by train and road links to the rest of the UK. York Station is a key stop on the East Coast Mainline, and the train station is located very centrally. If you intend to stay at Blossom St Premier Inn, it is situated right beside the station. All other recommended accommodation is within a 20 minute walk. York is tiny!
Driving
For those driving, York is not a very car friendly city thanks to its medieval walls. Parking is available, but often at a high cost. Please check with your accommodation regarding their parking arrangements.
Flying
If you are flying to join us, the nearest airports are Leeds Bradford, Newcastle and Manchester. Public transport links to these airports are available but, with the exception of Manchester, they are not direct. If you are flying into London, train transport to York is easy, with the Piccadilly line running directly from Heathrow to King’s Cross.
